Gorgoroth was founded in 1992 by Hat, Infernus and Goat Pervertor. This is one of the big norwegian black metal bands like f.ex. Emperor, that you must hail for eternity. The wise have spoken, now obey! Gorgoroth has like many of the other great bands in the norwegian black metal family, been blessed with the extensive representation of geniality by numerous of the best musician in Norway. Like mentioned before, Gorgoroth was founded by Hat, Infernus and Goat Pervertor, of which only Infernus is still contributing to this godlike band, and has thus participated on guitar on all Gorgoroth albums, aswell as being in the band Desekrator and on the splendid cult debut release from Borknagar, called Borknagar. Hat only got to scream on the 1993 demo A Sorcery Written In Blood, on the 1994 Pentagram debut release and on the 1996 Antichrist release. Goat Pervertor only got to play drums on the demo and on the debut. A dude named Kjettar played bass on the demo, but was later replaced as he had to go to jail because he burned down a church, something that was really trendy at that time in Norway. Funny thing is that his replacement was in the unholy presence of Samoth of Emperor, Satyricon, Burzum, Arcturus, Zyklon and Zyklon-B, who himself later had to stop in Gorgoroth to go to jail for churcharson. He got to play bass on Pentagram. A true heathen kyrkjebrennr.

Gorgoroth 1994: Hat, Frost, Infernus, Storm

Ares of Aeturnus replaced Samoth on bass on Antichrist, on the 1998 release Destroyer and on the 7" The Last Tormentor. The mysterious person D.A. participated with his deathbreath on one track on Antichrist. Frost, also in Satyricon and 1349 and Zyklon-B does drums on Antichrist and Destroyer. Pest from Obtained Enslavement sang on Antichrist, The Last Tormentor, Under The Sign Of Hell and Destroyer. T-Reaper also did bass on Destroyer and so did Infernus, who also played guitar as always. Daimonion played synth on Destroyer. Grim, who also played in Immortal, played drums on The Last Tormentor and accomplished to create one of the most evil drumsounds on the godlike Gorgoroth album Under The Sign Of Hell from 1997, before he killed himself. His mission in life had been completed. Hail fucking hail! A true martyr; enjoy your mead and pork in Valhalla. Together with Frost, Vrolok from Aeturnus like Ares was, played drums on Destroyer. Also on Destroyer, Gaahl of Trelldom, Gaahlskagg and Sigfader joined in on vocals together with Pest, and he is still in the band, although after the release of the 2000 splendid record Incipit Satan, he was sentenced to go to jail for about a year (not confirmed information) for violence. Don't fuck with this guy, 'cause he'll bash your skull in. He looks so damn evil, that Gryn didn't even dare to ask him for a picture and an informal interview when he saw him in a bar once. Tormentor, also in Gaahlskagg, joined in on guitar on Destroyer and Incipit Satan. He is no longer in the band. Sjt. Erichsen did the drums on Incipit Satan, but is no longer in the band, as he is now replaced by Kvitrafn also in Det Hedenske Folk. King Ov Hell did the bass on Incipit satan, and Infernus of course also played guitar and did some vocals too.

Gorgoroth is a place in the dark land of Mordor in the book The Lord Of The Rings. The place is in eternal shadow by the evil presence of dark lord Sauron, it is crawling with slimy bloodthirsty orcs born in pure hatred and is always engulfed in poisonous fumes spewed out by Amon Amarth, the mountain of doom, where the ring of power was forged. ARGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!! How evil can it get ? Not much more than Gorgoroth. U could also check out our concert review from 2001 here.

The new Gorgoroth album is already mastered, and is to be released on Nuclear Blast Records and will be entitled Twilight Of The Idols. We are looking very forward to this!

A Sorcery Written In Blood, Demo, 1993.  Rating: Not Rated

Review coming.

Pentagram, Embassy, 1994.  Rating: 88

gorgorothpentagram.jpg The debut cd from Gorgoroth is a very praise worthy one. Pentagram kicks off in high speed with Begravelsesnatt. The fast drumming and riffing are accompanied by some of the most insane vocals I have ever heard! Hat sounds like Gollum from the Lord Of The Rings movie, jacked up on every kind of drug known to man. I have no idea what this man is doing now, but a trip to the local mental asylum might have calmed him down abit. This man sounds VERY angry!! Besides Begravelsesnatt, Crushing The Scepter (Regaining A Lost Dominion), Ritual, Huldrelokk and Maaneskyggens Slave are also tracks that needs your full attention, not because they are the least bit technical. Rather because of the mood they bring with them. Gorgoroth's music is not just something you put on, you have to be in the mood for it! For instance when you are out drinking and the bartender refuses to hand out any more beer to you, that's the perfect time to play Gorgoroth at max. volume!!!

Gryn has not made up his mind about this one yet, but my rating wil more or less agree with Agantyr's.

Antichrist, Malicious, 1996.  Rating: 88

gorgorothantichrist.jpg Once again Gorgoroth spew forth their venomous recipe for black metal. On Antichrist, Infernus and Hat have enlisted the help of Satyricon drummer Frost and Obtained Enslavement singer Pest. The final result is a more structured mature recording compared to Pentagram. Sometimes you can hear the natural direction in which Gorgoroth were heading at the time, some small passages that are very similar to those found on Under The Sign Of Hell. The only negative thing about Antichrist is the total playing time clocks up 25 minutes! And one of the songs is an intro!

Agantyr wrote this review and thus, the rating reflects a rating of 83.
Gryn thinks that is one of the best Gorgoroth albums, though that doesn't distinct it from the others in this way, 'cause they are equally good, and gives it a rating of 93. This is cult black metal to me. I agree the record does not have the same dirty sound as on Under The Sign Of Hell, but it is just as good in another way. All tracks rule in hell. Track one has the most evil name ever for an intro, En Stram Lukt Av Kristent Blod!!! "An Acrid Reek Of Christian Blood". Totally hilarious. Bergtrollets Hevn "Revenge Of The Mountaintroll" is an equally cult track. Track 3 Gorgoroth is one of the best black metal tracks ever. The screaming done by Hat is just as cool as that of Aldrahn's (Dødheimsgard), Nocturno Culto's of (Darkthrone), and even Dead's (ex. Mayhem). Possessed (By Satan) is awesome too.Heavens Fall and Sorg "Sorrow" are also cool tracks, although they don't stand out in the same way as the beforementioned. Eternally hail this album; take it with you in your grave. Anything else is blasphemy and will not be looked mildly upon in the halls of Valhalla.

Under The Sign Of Hell, Malicious, 1997.  Rating: 95

gorgorothunder.jpg This cd is one of the dirtiest and most uncompromising I have ever heard and I love it! It's the kind of production that can make your grandmother gasp for air and wee infants who like Dimmu Borgir cry out in pain. Damn how I love the production of this masterpiece. Everything is just in grey or black nuances, there is absolutely nothing "positive" on it! NOTHING! The album kicks off with Revelation Of Doom (no, it's not a cover of Hellhammer. That track is spelled RevelationS Of Doom). This track is mindblowing and no compromise what so ever is given towards the unsuspecting listener. Straight ahead full throttle black fucking metal! Continuing in the same vein, the next track, Krig, pounds away like there's no tomorrow. It's not until the track Postludium, the listener is given a small breather. But after 1 minute and 33 seconds we're off again. Ødeleggelse Og Undergang "Destruction And End (You can't say this word in english))" is probably Gorgoroth's way of incorporating some small Isengard influences, because Pest actually sings on this track instead of just screaming his lungs sore. There are so many great tracks on this cd, but The Rite Of Infernal Invocation is by far the greatest! With it's more thrashier riffs, it's just one of those tracks that gets under your skin and stays there! Btw. check out the "solo" on that track!! Feedback mania! Under The Sign Of Hell is without a doubt Gorgoroth's masterpiece!

Agantyr wrote this review it thus reflects a rating of incredible 96!
Gryn. I couldn't agree more. I fucking love this record! Rating 94.
